Speaker 2:

Welcome to it Gets To Be Easy Podcast where you're granted permission to live your most healthful and joy-filled life with ease.

Speaker 1:

We are your hosts, katie and Shauna, and together we've been cracking the code to creating our own realities with ease, and now we've set out to help you grow confident in this too. Hi friends, welcome back to the show for a brand new episode. We're excited to be here with you today. We hope you've been enjoying our throwback episodes we've been sharing lately. We sure have, and I know we've gotten some messages from some of our listeners thanking us for these right on time messages. We really truly love these opportunity to take another time around with our past conversations and are always smiling at our future selves for sharing these incredible nuggets on these replays that are so relevant to the current timeline in our lives. It's just incredible. So today we want to actually springboard from a topic we talk about a lot throughout the show. We have an entire self-paced course for this one that is called Shifting from Hustle. Please go check it out on our Patreon.

Speaker 1:

But our very first episode on the show is about transforming from hustle to a life with more ease. Episode on the show is about transforming from hustle to a life with more ease. We've been chatting about breaking those chains ever since. In preparing for today's conversation, we went back and listened to a few of these previous conversations. We did some journaling and, in true Katie and Shauna style, we took some honest inventory to come share how it's going with our relationship with hustle. So I have a feeling we're showing up super transparent and vulnerable here for this one, as the ebbs and flows of hustle is quite a ride. It's important too to understand they're going to always be peaks and valleys with this work, and if we're not working on getting too down on ourselves or falling victim of it, we're not working on getting too down on ourselves or falling victim of it Such an important concept.

Speaker 2:

So how about you, shauna? How is your journey going with Hustle? Oh, my goodness, right, like what a conversation to have and just to go back and look at how it's evolved and how it comes in. And you know, one of the things that I think is really funny and I think this is actually still tied to hustle probably is like we have this thing in our mind that we're going to set this goal of doing something such as shifting from hustle, and then we're going to do X, y, z and then it's going to be gone. And that is not the case.

Speaker 2:

You guys, with hustle, if you've noticed yourself, if you're working on this too.

Speaker 2:

But what I was saying offline as we were talking about this, is what I've started to observe, as I take that bird's eye view, which you guys have heard me say that before. I love being able to step back and just observe all of it, right, and try to come from a place of not judging it, as I, you know, fall back into different patterns maybe that seem like hustling, and realizing what really is evolving is moving from a place of like wounded hustle. So, like the, you have to do hard work and it has to look this way and all of the shoulds and success is only if you X, y, z, you know to more of a place of inspired action. And, yes, I am working towards things or spending a lot of time on something, or spending a lot of energy on something that I want, and at times at the expense of my energy and health, and all the things do still happen.

Speaker 2:

But I do feel like there is an evolved code here and I do feel like we have had quote unquote success around shifting it, because we're looking at it differently and allowing ourself to be what you said just transparent and vulnerable and looking at it and being an observer of it. And do we want to continue to work at this and what comes through? So, yeah, that's kind of where I feel. I feel like this conversation will evolve greatly around that today, just because we're both in places where you want things in life and you're working towards them and being inspired to do that, but at times it kind of feels like a roller coaster.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, absolutely, and I think I don't think I know. It's definitely something that I find myself going forward. I was like flipping back through my journal and I haven't done that in a while and so I was reading these entries that you know from last February and also from last May, which is right around the time that we recorded one of the episodes that we'll be resharing. But and I was just kind of in a similar pattern of, okay, I have a lot going on, how am I balancing this? And the key thing, like I said in the introduction here, is that we're just not getting down on ourselves for having kind of slipped back into some habits of getting in the flow of hustle instead of being in the flow of observing. And I think that one of the things that is really important is that, where we're at now, we're able to really recognize the signs. We are seeing these habits in ourselves. We are seeing them and, like you said, we are able to discern. Is this from a place of we're inspired, action and hustle, or going after something that we really wanted? Can we at least have an exit strategy? So you, you know we were prepping for this episode you were like, oh hey, you've got this puppy who's all consuming and there's no breaks. But it's something that we want and we know that there is this short-term piece of hustle that is going to be really intense and I recognize that and but I also know that eventually we'll kind of it'll taper down and we'll get I'll get some more of my own time back, just. But it's hard right now, like I'm openly admitting, like it's hard and I'm not, I'm not doing a great job of finding the cracks and crevices of space to to rest and take care of myself, and so I'm deep in this hustle right now, but between here and may I didn't have that all the time. So there's progress there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's so good. And, just like you said, not being hard on ourselves. That's the thing I think. Sometimes when we get hard on ourselves, then we start resisting, yeah, and then it's like contrast to the nth degree shows up and then you're like it's just exploding and then you're like what do I do Right? And just can't say enough.

Speaker 2:

We've both already said, probably several times, about the power of observation and really honestly, like when we come in on the show and we talk about sharing these codes that we download and all of that, one of the most powerful codes is observation, you know, being able to see what's going on in every now moment and stepping out of judgment and stepping into this self-compassion and understanding. And I was sharing with you even in these moments, sometimes with being a wellness warrior. You know, with being a wellness warrior right of being able to really be an advocate for our own health. I mean, this is how Katie and I started together. Right is like being able to advocate for our own self and support and use all these alternative in quotes methods to support us. But sometimes that can also come to a place where you're like, oh, it has to be this way, it has to look this way. It has to be routine, all of those things. And so lately I've been recognizing too, like when I catch myself in hustle and I notice body messages, I'm trying to come to a place pretty quickly with it Like what do you need right now? You know not, what you know has worked before, or that sort of thing and just allowing intuition and I know if you don't have a steady practice of that, like sometimes it feels bumpy but like just whatever comes to mind, that is your intuition. Whatever you feel in that moment is it.

Speaker 2:

And you know, and I was giving you an example and it sounds kind of silly, but I was driving home and feeling that one day and was like what do I need?

Speaker 2:

I need to take a shower as soon as I get home. I don't do that, that's not in the routine, but I did, and I was telling Katie offline that time expanded. That night I had still the opportunity to engage in the things that I wanted or things that were on my to-do list, plus some, like honestly, if I think about it, and it really had to do with allowing myself to take that moment and so, yeah, it was just really encouraging and again, that's how your intuition gets stronger is because that's the feedback it needs, because you responded to it and so for me, anytime we can tap into that and, of course, like that sounds like a really awesome example that really worked and it's not always that smooth, but I wanted to share that here today because it's not all or nothing Like as soon as you recognize that you've stepped out of that, like it doesn't matter why or what, it's just like what do I need now?

Speaker 1:

yeah, the intuition part that was one of the prompts that you had gave, you know provided for us to kind of really prep for this, and I realized in that moment that I was actively ignoring my intuition, like I heard she was telling me all the things, but I just was like I don't have time to listen and and I know that it's it's the irony is thick, because I think it was last month when we recorded our new episode, I was like, oh, you know, I feel less pain and my body is responding well. And then I'm just in a month's time you're kind of like, oh, okay, Things happen, and right now I'm like my body doesn't feel so great, so you can only ignore her for so long, and that's where we're at now. It's like I need to find this balance where it's not always letting it hit the very bottom and it's doing what you said. It's taking one day and saying in one moment like what do I need right now? And then, like she knows that you're listening and you're honoring what your body needs.

Speaker 1:

As we've talked about this in in before, and this is definitely out in the wellness world, it's like the promises you make yourself if you don't hold them, then you're telling your body and your mind that you it can't rely on you. So then you're gonna have so, like you said, you're gonna have the resistance, you're gonna have the aches and pains. All of these other things are gonna come up because you have this internal conflict going on, and I know for a fact that that's what's going on for me right now, and so it's just like, okay, I need to kind of dig myself out of this a little bit.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think you made a really good point there, and it's something we talked about not too long ago, about safety, right, and the nervous system. You know it's. Our bodies are just so brilliant and the fact that they can pick up and you know, take on, like, oh, you know it's, our bodies are just so brilliant and the fact that they can pick up and, you know, take on, like, oh, you want to be in charge and do all the things now, moment, okay, I'll do it, kind of thing, you know. And then eventually, of course, our human body needs rest, and then throws it at us like, hey, I'm gonna, I'm gonna really get your attention by giving you know these, these body messages, are these symptoms that you need to tune into, right, but I think it's a and I, you know, said that offline too is that being really intentional? And something for me that I feel like I'm using a lot is what I'm calling this, like me meter, you know. And so it's just like these small little moments of you know what is it that I need from this? And it's really kind of cool, too, if you step into the realm of observation from when contrast shows up, if you start to notice yourself going into, like, oh, why is this happening? Oh, I keep hitting this wall. Or, oh, these. It seems like all of these things are stacking up. Those are really good signs, right?

Speaker 2:

A silly one this week for me was we have two different buildings at work and I wasn't able to access. For some reason, my computer would not print to the one, the building printer that I'm typically in, so I had to keep walking back to the other building to print things. And you know, after like the third time, I had this moment of like oh, why is this happening? And then I literally like paused in my walk and started laughing.

Speaker 2:

I was like, because you get to move your body right now and it's sunny outside and you get to, you know, take these moments by yourself as you're walking, and it sounds so ridiculous, but there's so much power in that to allow ourselves to go there when something is showing up. That really is like. Why is this in my life right now? Why does it feel like it's taking so much more time to get something simple done or something like that? I think that those are clues too, for us to tune in and see. You actually asked the universe to not hustle so much. So guess what? It's giving you the opportunity to not hustle in these really small ways.

Speaker 1:

I'm was thinking of and just finding those moments where you can, it doesn't. I think that sometimes, like my limiting beliefs kind of come in and it's just like, oh, you should be able to handle all of this. Like, or there isn't time, you know, for you to take that break or to take the to do those things for you, and really honestly it's I'm proud of myself for recognizing that in myself. But now it's time to take the action and saying I just need 10 minutes, or can you make sure X, y, z and or like you get to, like I'm going to go walk to the other building to print this, just so I can add a little bit of a break to my day. And so right now it's like that's getting the ideas turning for me, like what are some ways that I can do that?

Speaker 1:

And I know for one. It's just like releasing guilt of not letting the puppy play for the full hour he is awake. Like sometimes I can play with you for 30 minutes, but then I need to have 30 minutes and you're fine and it's okay. Like I'll play with you for two hours later today. But so I'm just trying to think through some ideas for myself and I hope that inspires our listeners too, that just it doesn't have. It can be bite-sized, it doesn't have to be crazy.

Speaker 2:

I love that so much. It doesn't have to look a certain way, and you made a really good point there about limiting beliefs. We talk about this probably every episode some way about ego, right, and again it's about observation. It's just checking in with those stories. You see them pop up, this puppy for an hour. I, you know, I said I was going to do this, that sort of thing and just recognizing that it's okay for you to put you in there.

Speaker 2:

You know, when we were doing the journaling too, I was seeing like I was engaged in a committee with something for a couple of sessions and realized that like I'm actually no good to that committee because the meetings are at the end of the day where I've already put in nine, 10 hours with all the things, and it's like what are they going to gain from this? Just me being there, you know, and for me to bravely say to them like this is just not it. I'll support you on the outside, you know part of it and be a part of the event and those kinds of things, but I'm no good for this piece of it and that took a lot. Those are ego stories, right, like I'm a leader in that community that I'm a part of, and so it does take us recognizing that there are some long-term stories attached to hustle that we have to keep seeing that they're there and being able to choose.

Speaker 2:

And I think, too, like what we've been saying here today is not getting so hung up on it, having to be this big full action right, like I'm going to write in my planner that I'm going to do all these things today to support me. No, like just be open to the universe showing you, like when I had to walk over to the other building with the, you know, for the printer like be open to the universe showing you those little pockets, those little bite size that you said throughout the day, and I think that that puts us more in receiving mode. You know we talked about that a lot. You just talked about asking for help in that and we've been really really sharing some codes around that too, and I think the more we allow ourselves to observe the stories and work through them, we're much more in receiving mode, with more ease, I think.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I agree, and that's I think that's one of, like my daily, daily prayers is like, can you help, you know, fill me with some patience and some calm, and I'm like, I'm open to receive whatever that looks like. The opportunity is to be more at rest or at peace, and it's important to in whatever that looks like. I think I know it from a mother's perspective it's so easier to do the things for our kids and ask our kids to do the things. But it's like right now, like can the five-year-old put his dish next to the sink? Yes, can the nine-year-old put her dishes in the dishwasher? Yes, can the 12-year-old fold and put his laundry away? Absolutely Like, just those little things, that's one less load going to do it perfectly your way, or whoever it is your husband you know we joke about the laundry Can you get it to 80%?

Speaker 1:

And I was like, if I can't find my clothes, that's not 80%. But thank you for trying. Maybe put the kids' clothes away. I love it. So we've got our balance there. But I think that being open to receive part, that's half of the battle, because you have to realize that it's not going to be done in your way if it's help with a chore or whatever it may be. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Just so much flexibility is needed here, and I think that's just an invitation for us, as we're evolving as humans, to be more flexible.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know, and I think that one of the big shifts when we look at hustle is moving from a place of chasing dreams and this life that you want to creating it. You know, those are really big differences when you sit down and observe it, and so I think, the more we stay stuck on it having to look a certain way, or the laundry being done in a certain way, or you know, whatever it is that we're kind of used to as a routine versus just like creating this reality where things are flowing it doesn't matter how they're getting done or who's doing them, and it does I mean, it's complete honesty here Like, there's a lot of like, having to let go of like and working through the cringe. We'll be honest, cringe happens when it's like, but I wanted it that way, you know, and so there's just there's definitely some some personal work in that, for sure, but tap into that, you guys. Moving from chasing to creating is a big deal when we're talking about having this joy filled life.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, this is just as we continue to go through these chapters of life, these phases of life, and understanding that the hustle will always be in some shape or form there. I feel like recognizing that. Like you said, that, whether or not it's inspired action hustle, or if it's wounded hustle, or honestly it's like we talked about the five to nine shift for parents with kids, with sports it is real and that is a level of hustle that just cannot be avoided if we want to help our kids grow and, you know, be interested in their things. And so that's what I'd really be like is inspired action hustle.

Speaker 1:

But what I do to balance that other side of it is like super simple dinner plans and that's another way to just kind of like give yourself some grace, and that's another way to just kind of like give yourself some grace. Do I really want to just make chicken and vegetables every night? No, but is it so easy? Yes, Throw in some pasta for the kids and everyone's happy. So that's just you have. You know, I was trying to. I was kind of getting down on myself, I was like my schedule is too full, Like how do I do this differently? And I just realized I was like last night in the carpool listening to these 12-year-old boys like give each other advice on girls and like you know how to be a better soccer player teammate, and I was like I get to listen to these conversations, I get to be a fly on the wall for 30 minutes and that's really cool.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's fun, you know, and being able to step back on that, and so I think that that's a lot of what we're saying today is just invite yourself to step back and take those looks when it feels challenging, when you feel like you're on a roller coaster, just being able to do that and then ask yourself, you know, does this serve me in this moment? And you just shared how that does right, or if it doesn't, and then that's permission to dig in deeper and evolve it. So, yeah, does this feel like a good place to wrap our conversation? Yeah, I think it's been a really good conversation. We hope that you all are tuning in on this. We're sharing these old episodes on hustle and then how it's looking now and how we continue to evolve that and allow those expansive codes to come through.

Speaker 2:

You know, really take a personal connection to this. We want you to feel this evolution of hustle for yourself, whatever that looks like, you know, explore it through our journey, but definitely looking at it from your own perspective. And, you know, as always, we really want you to feel inspired to take inventory, like Katie said at the beginning. That's one of our big tools. You know, look at your own hustle. You know, is it a wounded way of hustle that's interjecting into your day or can you feel empowered to? You know? Follow that inspired action. Let it be an invitation to set an intention and align with really your true, authentic self even more. Tap into that intuition and allow it to help you monitor and nourish those ego stories, like we always say, and then create this me meter we've been talking about.

Speaker 2:

What does that mean for yourself? And remember that you get to create your own reality, your awareness and willingness to take responsibility for your journey. Keep a pulse on the hustle and shift even in the smallest of ways is exactly how we step out of hustle matrix and experience bliss in those little pockets throughout the day. You've got this, sis. Make sure you come hang out with us in Patreon, as Katie mentioned earlier. We've got an easy to access self-paced course all about this hustle, and it's an easy to access self-paced course all about this hustle and it's really going to support you in digging in on it for yourself what it looks like for you, and we'd absolutely love to have you run through this course as us, as your guides, until next time.
