Text us!! We wanna hear what you thought of this episode!

Ever had that nagging feeling in your gut, only to brush it aside and regret it later? We get it. Tune in as we explore the profound connection between tuning into our body messages and trusting our intuition. We share our personal stories of how ignoring these signals previously impacted our lives and discuss how being more attuned to our bodies has been transformative. Highlighting insights from Elisa Vidi's "In the Flow" and Jacqueline from the Menstrual Mogul podcast, we reveal how recognizing and honoring our body’s natural rhythms can enhance emotional, physical, and decision-making balance.

Stress and recovery are two sides of the same coin. We talk about how quickly stress can build up and how much longer it takes for our bodies to recover. Through personal stories of hormone imbalances and the struggle to maintain high energy levels, we stress the importance of being mindful and intentional about recognizing signs of stress. Wrapping up, we invite you to our Patreon community to share your challenges and practices, leaving you with Ram Dass's thought-provoking quote: "Remember this, the quieter you become, the more you hear." Join us on this journey towards a balanced and health-filled life.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to it Gets To Be Easy Podcast where you're granted permission to live your most healthful and joy-filled life with ease.

Speaker 1:

We are your hosts, katie and Shauna, and together we've been cracking the code to creating our own realities with ease, and now we've set out to help you grow confident in this too.

Speaker 2:

Hey friends, welcome back to the show. As always, thank you for continuing to join us here. We're so grateful we're in this community and the opportunity to connect, inspire and empower you as we share our own journey. So today we want to jump in and chat about something that has actually popped in and out of our conversations across probably so many episodes, and that is listening to our body messages.

Speaker 2:

So you've heard us mention before just really how incredibly brilliant we see our bodies are, and they really do send us messages to try and get our attention, but we might not always be the best detectives when it comes to this, and so we thought it would be helpful to really kind of unpack the journey of how this tuning into our own body messages has looked like and how like this increased awareness that we've started to have over the past few years has really started to connect the dots for us as we decode these tips and tricks for more conscious living.

Speaker 2:

So, katie, I know in our recent guest episode with Kay Carrinder, my QHHT practitioner, you asked her to elaborate on learning to trust our intuition more, and I just really loved the dialogue when I went back and listened there and it kind of flashed back to that as I was thinking about this topic today, as we were chatting about body messages, and so I was thinking like, let's tie that together a little bit. Like Katie, how do you feel listening to body messages has really been key in connecting and helping you feel more confident in trusting your intuition.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's a great, prompt, good kickoff. So that conversation also kind of led into our next episode, which was released on today, the 10th of July, where we're talking about intuition and surrendering to it. But I think it also really helps from the perspective of trusting what your body is telling you and I think I mentioned this before, but, like this is going to be an unsponsored solicitation for this entire episode. But I know that as like a busy woman coming from the mindset of like we were raised, of like you walk it off, you push through, and I look back and I reflect back on my life and I think if there were so many times where my body was telling me, please stop, please slow down, you can't push this hard right now, and I would ignore that.

Speaker 1:

And so when my even though my body and my intuition was saying maybe there's something there, but I would continue to push through, and I think back now and I mentioned it in the episode that released today, where I was like gosh, if I could go back and be as tuned in as I am now when I was younger, like how successful would I have been in my sports, in my life or whatever it may be, and I think that I talk about that with, like the young women in my life, especially around their cycles and understanding you know where are you at in your cycle and how it's influencing your emotions and how you feel and your decision-making skills all leads back to your intuition. So if you can trust what your intuition is telling you to do, you could feel it within your body You're more relaxed, you're less tense and you just feel more in the flow. So I'll keep rambling, but I'll pause there.

Speaker 2:

No, I think there's already so much there. That's so cool, and I think that cycle syncing piece of it was something that I was feeling coming up when I was thinking about this topic too, and so I love that you just went there as well, because, you know, you and I have been talking about this for years now together. Right as we started jumping in on that and seeing like, oh, there's really something to this and even feeling like we had never heard parts of it before, right, and it's just like not this mainstream thing that we've been taught. And so now, having done it for these years and knowing like, okay, my body doesn't have to be the same, I don't have to have these standards that it's always the same, and I'm just working on this 24-hour clock, which is so not true for our female bodies and really recognizing and honoring that four-part cycle has been huge in recognizing body messages. But one thing that I realized is that sometimes, when we get into the flow ourselves with things, we think everyone is there.

Speaker 2:

And recently I was chatting with one of our listeners, actually, and she was just starting to talk about she actually asked me about working out and things like that, and I was like you know, I really have trying to be mindful of, like what that looks like for me and building that for me, and which has always kind of been a bumpy road in my own life. I was like, but this cycle syncing thing is really something, cause I know she was someone who was really pushing hard all the time and so it just felt natural to chat with her about it. And so then I realized like oh wait, like not everybody is talking about this. Like she even said, like what do you mean? There's four parts of our cycle, and I was like, oh, yes, okay, we got to go there.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God, yes, yes. And so it was super eyeopening of like, okay, we got to talk about that here on the show. And so, you know, I just dropped in our notes here thinking about like that and we'll put it in the show notes, because there were some really key resources that we dug into when we first started. You know, like Elisa Vidi and her book and In the Flow, and you know Jacqueline from the Menstrual muggle podcast Like I'm just really been loving her lately and how she's been framing things, Um, even from this perspective of business, and like how we get to realize that we're actually much more productive when we tap in with this.

Speaker 2:

Like we don't, you know, we get to take that pressure off and we get to have this co-created life that we really talk about all the time here when we tap into that part. So I'm sure there's way more episodes loading there as we jump in and talk about this. But as we relate it to body messages, I think that that has been key of just the part there that I want everyone to hear is we don't have to be the same every day, and if our body is sending a message, you know, and asking us to slow down or asking us to ramp up, because that is part of it, right, like following the energy there versus fighting. It is so key.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I totally agree and I think that what's been for someone like myself and I know I know that I can easily slip back into that mode of just going and not truly tapping in and paying attention Having the ability to have an aura ring and to be able to have that check-in on literally your vitals of the day has been so influential for me, because I can see where my readiness is going down, my resiliency is going down and I can tap in and recognize okay, this is where my body is at. And this isn't to say like I always say this, and I want to add that comment we're not perfect at this Like we're going to continue to ebb and flow, we're going to have wins, we're going to have opportunities, and so for me right now, like it's, I've been having to really be so intentional about not pushing and I can slowly and it starts with, like during the days and making sure that I'm listening to my body. Can I go harder? Can I? Should I do the workout? Like yesterday was? I was 95 degrees. I'm like I'm going to go play golf. So I played nine holes and I walked and by the end of that nine holes, I was like holy crap, I am so exhausted. And I walked and by the end of that, nine holes. I was like, holy crap, I am so exhausted. And so for the next nine I did a cart, which, in that mindset where I'm always like, oh, I'm tough enough, like I'll just walk, and but no, I was like I'm going to take the car. I really want to keep playing, but I'm tired, so I'm going to balance that out and it's not a loss.

Speaker 1:

And so this morning, as the alarm goes off at 5.30 and I'm laying there and I was like I can't even open my eyes, like I am so tired, pop open the Oura ring and they're like your heart rate was elevated overnight, which is a sign of dehydration or exhaustion, or blah, blah, blah. And I was like, yeah, a hundred percent. So I'm going to shift, I'm wanting to do a strength workout today, and but instead I did my morning walk with the dog and I'm going to do mobility movements. I'm still moving my body, but I'm not lifting, which was the plan. And those are those messages where I'm like there's still a teeny, tiny part of me that was like are you sure you don't want to lift? Are you going to regret that? But I'm like, the only person who is judging me is me, so can I not judge myself today?

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, oh my gosh, I'm glad you went there with that, because that's a big piece of this body message thing, right? Is that non-judgment piece? Like? I think that was the foundation of it for me, right? Like I've said before, like always been super intuitive, but maybe not always the best at interpretation or what to do about it. Right, there was a lot oh my gosh, so much resistance, and that's what you're talking about there too, right? Is this like you play this little like game in your head sometimes? Right, we've got to let ego kind of step back. I got this. Yeah, it doesn't mean I'm giving up, I still get to do this thing I want to do. But here's how I can shift in the moment to change what it's going to be so that I'm not so burnt out. That's the part that I think has been really cool.

Speaker 2:

As we look at this Oura Ring data. We've talked about that before, how we don't like to get caught up in data, but how it's been so instrumental for us has really been just that being able to catch it or being able to have confirmation on things and really say like, oh yes, this is the way to go. Or, oh, pause there and really say like oh yes, this is the way to go. Or, oh, pause there. And really sometimes it's interesting that it actually isn't always aligned with exactly how you feel either. So I think it's important because we've put ourselves for many, many years of pushing in a place where the nervous system is like, okay, this is what she wants to do, know, and so it will go with it until it can't anymore. And that's where crash and burnout comes, and I think that's why sometimes it's really helpful to have this data to look at, because you might not actually be feeling it yet. So then you are pushing yourself to it and then it's like, oh crap, I went too far, um, and then it's a little too late, and then you've got all of these like snowball effect kind of things happening, and so that's what I think I love about it, because I even shared some of that today.

Speaker 2:

I've had some pretty packed days in my job outside of home, and it's different right now and I think it's my perspective on it too is shifted right. It doesn't feel so much stress as much as it does just feel like a lot. And so some days it's like, wow, that was just a day that felt like four kind of thing, and so I'm realizing.

Speaker 2:

As I look at it, though, what I'm seeing is that I am having more of this flow through the different states, versus staying really stuck in stress mode all day and then plummeting down to restoration, like trying to fix something that's happened in a day, and a lot of that has to do with just those tiny moments of paying attention to those body messages Like oh, do I actually need to go for a walk right now? Oh, do I actually need to breathe right now? Oh, there's my water that's only you know half empty, and it's been you know a while you know, sort of thing. So like it's so small but so key, and I think that's what really came through for me as I was thinking about what's this origin of tapping into body messages? Is just that, really being able to respond in the moment and get out of your own way.

Speaker 1:

We hope to see you over on Patreon soon and we look forward to welcoming you into our incredible community. Yeah, and I think what we've underestimate is you've talked briefly with like is that recovery time? So we're catching it. We're like, oh, we're starting to see these little blips about how things are feeling, and I think what it's helping us to do is we're starting to see these little blips about how things are feeling, and I think what it's helping us to do is and I know in the notes you talked about body scans but it's helping us to recognize and take that pause, because the only way and we said it before is like actively addressing the needs of our bodies is going to take us actively listening and paying attention to it, and one of the things that I've learned and I'm seeing it in my data, but then also just like because I'm trying to tap in more intentionally is that it doesn't take much to ramp up in terms of, like your stress levels, your resiliency is going down but your stress is going up. That can happen super fast, but I've noticed in my body it takes twice that to recover from it and so it's almost like is this, is it worth it to stay at that high intensity level Even for short periods of time? It's going to take double the time to recover from it and and I'm seeing that in so many different ways Um, and I mean I've talked about this hormone battle that I've been watching I shouldn't say battle, struggle, opportunity that I've been over the last year and that's the first place I see it is hormones get impacted first, and then it's my readiness and then I'm not able to lift like I want, like the downstream effect of pushing hard for too long, and too long for me right now is like three days a week. It took me.

Speaker 1:

I went to Hershey in May. My mom had her car accident, like it was stressful traveling home, so I had onehey in May. My mom had her car accident, like it was stressful traveling home, so I had one week in May and it wasn't until two weeks ago, a week ago so over a month it took my body to get back to a state. My period was weird In that month time frame, like I was exhausted, I wasn't lifting as much and it was just one full week of high intense on my body and my brain and my, my soul.

Speaker 1:

And it took six weeks to to get back to square and it's and that was I had to be so intentional because I knew things weren't good and I was seeing it. And so last week, you know, when your high energy cycle time, I was like I can't, like I need to use this high energy to recover, so I didn't push as hard. So it's just interesting, because that is so hard for me, like I'll be totally open with everyone here. It's like doing that is very hard for me and it's again, I'm the only one judging myself. No one else knows the battle that like is raging inside of me to hold back. But it's still, and the spiral is so easy and I'm trying really hard not to spiral on it and just realizing like this is what my body needs.

Speaker 2:

So much goodness there that I just want to point out that I hope the listeners are hearing you and you're hearing yourself too that it is a celebration in this awareness piece of it and really consciously, intentionally allowing that, you know, and even allowing that, you know, battle that feels like sometimes right, because it is this resistance, because we've talked about this before when we have patterns and we have habits and we have ways we've been doing things for decades, it becomes a part of our identity. And so there is this internal, you know even cognitive, battle going on because it's like, oh, what? That's not who I am Like, I do it this way and you know, and so I just I want to honor that in you, friend, and then also just encourage the listeners. And you know I'm here that myself all the time is like when things come up where it feels out of balance. Or you know I'm here that myself all the time is like when things come up where it feels out of balance, or you know, not as this harmonious flow that we intend it to be that that big message to ourselves is just like okay, you know, let's do that body scan that you just brought up, or let's do, um, you know, just a moment of letting the body know that you are listening. Maybe it's not like you've got to go in this problem fixing mode.

Speaker 2:

I think that that's also part of what we're trying to break through here with body messages is that there is this tiny little nuance between problem solving and solution seeking. Like you know, sometimes those sound like the same thing. They're really not. You know, there's energetics there that are differently right and I think what we're saying is hustle mode, women. What we're in is we're in problem solving, fix mode, and that's where that resistance and that frustration comes in with our body because, damn it, can't we just fix it? Versus, when we go into solution seeking, it's like, oh body, what do you need? And it's more softer. And then there's this energy that we're tapping into and we're starting to become a magnet for what it is we want to feel and experience. It's different and it doesn't always mean that it comes with ease, like, yeah, that's what this podcast is all about. And we're getting there and we're feeling more and more of that and we're surprising ourselves and we're like, heck, yeah, look at this, but it will continue to feel bumpy because we're on this pattern of shifting.

Speaker 1:

That's good, and what's interesting here is we want to talk about some ways that and a lot of it might feel like repeats, but ways that we're taking that active approach to tapping in and so box checked on, using tech to help us. But I think, too, one of the things for me is making sure that our schedule is representative of me, like having that additional time, even if it's just for me, and so talk about this before. Where the kids are like why do you wake up so early? And I was like I need that time.

Speaker 1:

Just like, how am I doing body scan and listening to my body? Or, when the alarm goes off, allowing myself to six o'clock instead of five 30, because it's just how exhausted I am. Um, those are just some of the ways that I know that I'm trying to tap into that. Um, and if you follow me on social media, like I clearly am reading books, which is another huge part of being able to just sit and rest. Maybe I'm not necessarily like checking in on how my body feels, but I'm sitting and finding peace for 15 to 30 minutes and checking out Cause for me, I think that's been a big game changer, like I was kind of trying to feel guilty about checking out in a fictional book was kind of trying to feel guilty about checking out in a fictional book. I was like no, no this is good for me.

Speaker 2:

Like I need this break from reality. That's huge, and I really love that you brought that up, because that's something that I had shared a little bit too. For myself is like those silly guilt things that just are part of hustle culture that come into our mind and we're just like, oh, I should be doing da-da-da-da-da when I have this like what, who says who you know kind of thing, and I think that, too, you know a lot of. I love reading things that you know inspire me and personal development, professional development, all of that. But I think that there was a time where I was like if I was going to be reading, it was going to be that because it still needed to be productive or whatever you know. And so being able to shift into just sitting there and reading and like finishing a book in a day, if I freaking want to, you know huge, and to be able to do that in a way that is just being versus like making yourself do it or feeling like you've got to really do a lot to make this happen. Like just allow yourself to create those rituals, those little things that come up, and the more we do it, it becomes just part of who we are again, and so then it starts to feel good and it's just like I think we'll probably listen back to this years from now and be like remember when that was like something that was bumpy and we're still navigating, and now it's like we do this all the time.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, I think that's something that I wanted to make sure we point out is like it doesn't always have to be so serious either, like I think that when you know so much in my journey of hormones and all of those kinds of things of the year, it got really serious sometimes of just like I want this to be different, right, and so you're throwing all these things at it. And it's not like the things are bad and some of them really have great supports and there's some that I still really tap into and know that they have an impact, but I think we can get tangled up there sometimes too, and so I think that's where it gets to be easy. Part is, I think, is that it gets to be simple. Sometimes we overcomplicate it, and so I think that's really where I wanted us to go. As we talk about that origin and foundation of body messages is like let it be simple too, and then you can dig in where you need to.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I love that and this feels like a good time for us to just kind of wrap up and, you know, jumping off of what you were just saying, shauna but, like today's conversation has been simple and just in the flow and you could see behind the scenes of how in the flow this conversation was, but it's still so powerful, and so responding to our body's signals with TLC versus judgment and frustration as humans is such a work in progress and we both express that throughout this conversation. It's truly beckoning us to respond in a conscious and intentional way, though, so it asks us to tap into that self-love. So getting quiet and using those pauses we always talk about is such a key component to allowing ourselves to observe and respond to body messages in a way that can help us nourish the old and evolve into the present and even the future versions of ourselves more readily. So we'd love to hear what parts of listening to your body you find challenging and also what rituals or practices you find helpful to tap in here. So come share those over in our Patreon community.

Speaker 1:

We also have resources there that we're sharing, so you can drop into the conversation right under the episode once it's posted and, of course, talking more about this is a surefire way to keep your awareness and conscious intentions flowing. We love to be a part of that with you. As we wrap today, we leave you with this simple yet powerful quote from Ram Dass Remember this the quieter you become, the more you hear. So get quiet, dear friends and listeners, and allow the pause to transport you to a deeper connection with your body and permission for your intuitive self to guide the next best step in what your body is asking of you. So much love, sis.

Speaker 2:

We'll chat soon of you so much love. Breathe on purpose, stay curious and trust your intuition.
